The recent finding on Mount Everest of a boot and a sock belonging to the mountaineer Andrew Irvine has led to renewed hope that his body might also be found, not least because he was thought to be carrying a camera, which could finally settle the matter of whether he and George Mallory reached the summit in their expedition of June 1924, a century ago. Mallory’s body was found in 1999….
