On the pilgrim way: ‘Like a kindly earworm, I heard, “The light shines in the darkness”’ - Reform Magazine

I made a resolution at Christmas time – not waiting for the new year. I decided that I would try with renewed effort to find the signs of light and life, and hope lying around me and in the wider world. There seemed to be so much darkness, such overwhelming darkness: in Gaza, in Ukraine, in Sudan and in the wicked violence perpetrated against the ordinary people there; the people sleeping in our cold streets, even in the passageway to Sainsbury’s in my wealthy town; and what kinds of lying messages are reaching so many people through the new forms of media that I don’t even know how to access?

Through it all, like a kindly earworm, I heard the words, ‘The light shines in the darkness’….
