Gary Clayton explains why MAF’s 80th anniversary was a time of both joy and sadness

The first celebration in Mission Aviation Fellowship’s 80th anniversary year was a royal event hosted by King Charles III, Queen Camilla and Princess Anne at Buckingham Palace, to honour the work of 100 humanitarian organisations. They affirmed MAF’s ‘exceptional’ work’. Deputy Country Director Sam Baguma – whose team flew the Princess Royal in Uganda back in 2022 – said how surprised he was at the number of MAF partners present.

That event was followed in April by King Charles unveiling the latest addition to MAF’s Papua New Guinea fleet at RAF Northolt, West London. The King, who enjoyed learning more about MAF’s work in Africa and the Asia-Pacific region, said he couldn’t understand why more people hadn’t heard of the aviation charity….
